The History of Sarojini Naidu

Sarojini Naidu was the only woman who occupied


a very important position in National congress. She en-


joyed the confidence of Mahatma Gandhi


Sarojini was born on 13 Feb 1819 in Hyderabad but


her parents were Dor. Aghoynath chattopadhyaya and


Varad sundarl, a Bengal couple. Her father wanted her


to become a mathematician on scientist. But she had a


natural inclination towards ants and literature. She


waiting English poetry when she was only 12 years old


When she was only 16 years old, she got scholarship


to go to England for education. During her stay in


England she became acquainted with Dr. Govind Naidu


Very soon the two were married. Their marriage was


causticized because it was interstate and the year of


marriage was 1898 when the people were very ortho


dox. After marriage she was drawn into social Work


and in women's agitations. Later she entered politics


and became a follower of Mahatma she also come in


contact with G.K. Gokhale and 20kmanya Tilak.


In the year 1919 she went to England as member


op Home Rule League. Then she became president of


Indian National congress at Kanpur session in 1925.


In the famous pandi-yatra agitation against levy


on Salt. She led the march at Dharasana. In the famous 


quit India movement of 42 she was important


leader. When independence came she was appointed as


Governor of U.P. she expired in just two years after


this honor On 2nd March 1949.


The contribution of Sarojini was immense. She wanted 


Hindu and Muslim to come together she was very


much respected by both communities. She was also wont


d Famous poet and she was rightly called as nightingale


of India. She has written English poems in books, the


Golden thresh hold, the Bird of time, the Broken wing


It worthwhile to note that her daughter Padmoja


Naidu was equally capable and she became Governor


of Bengal.
